Pregnancy Exercise Book, The : A Step-By-Step Program for Achieving Optimal Fitness Throughout the Trimesters
Published in Spiral-bound by HarperResource (30 May, 2000)
Average review score:

A well planned workout. When I found out I was pregnant I was at a loss as to how I was going to maintain my fitness as I used to do kick-boxing and Tae Bo three to four times times a week! Obviously that wasn't suitable so I bought this book to help me structure a challenging workout. It begins with warm-ups and mobility stretches before the aerobic exercises which can be done at various levels to suit everyone. Then follows strengthening and toning before the final streches (including those dreaded pelvic floor exercises) and relaxation. Altogether it is a good workout that you can vary according to your energy levels and mood. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that the complete routine takes a lot longer than the hour stated but there are shorter routines to compensate. I feel great anyway and I don't feel that my fitness has decreased at all since I got pregnant!!!

Public Opinion
Published in Hardcover by Westview Press (December, 1998)
Average review score:

Goes beyond public opinion and into social constructsI read the book for the first time as a student of public opinion in Singapore where the issue, because of government policies, is very restricted and controlled.
The book gives the reader the possibility to comprehend public opinion from a wide range of topics (form political to historical, sociological and even psychological). It provides with plenty of examples, theories and studies done by the leading experts of leading universities where public opinion is studied, and, at the same time it explains the four W of such theories. It carries the reader from the meaning of public opinion to the impact of it in the construction of society, policies, social norms, religions, etc. It is concrete, profound and easy to read, as well as amazingly interesting.

Queen Victoria's Alice in Wonderland
Published in Paperback by Continental Historical Society (November, 1990)
Average review score:

Alice's other influenceAlice in Wonderland is my favorite book, and this book I enjoyed reading. For those other Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland lovers, this book is one you should read. The Continental History Society (CHS) has given a twist on what influenced the Alice stories. The reader does not only get to know more about Victoria, but in an annotated style the CHS shows what they believe to be parallels between the Alice adventures and Victoria's life. Some of the parallels are quite interesting!

Rodale's Flower Garden Problem Solver: Annuals, Perennials, Bulbs, and Roses
Published in Hardcover by Rodale Press (April, 1990)
Average review score:

Solving flower garden problems organicallyIf you consider yourself an organic gardener, this book is for you. There are three main sections to the book. The first part lists specific plants and is divided into chapters for annuals, perennials, bulbs and roses. Each flower has the following information: description, ideal environments, propagation, general care, most common insect pests and most common diseases. This is the part of the book I've found most helpful when there's a problem with a plant. Just look up the plant and locate the problem signs and the book gives suggestions on how to solve the problem organically. The second section has three chapters; Insects, Diseases and Animal Pests. Here pests are described, and information is given as to most obvious symptoms, best control strategies, monitoring, preventing damage and plants affected. The last section is a chapter on gardening basics. There are two things I don't like about this book. As many pests affect more than one type of plant, there is a lot of repeated information. A much greater variety of plants could be included if, when listing the symptoms, the author referred you to the pest section for problem solving. The second is that it would be nice to have pictures instead of line drawings to make identification easier. Overall, I enjoy this book and refer to it frequently to solve garden problems.

Rodale's Landscape Problem Solver: A Plant-By-Plant Guide
Published in Paperback by Rodale Press (January, 1996)
Average review score:

A book I am thankful to ownThis book provides easy to find solutions to your disease and insect problems. It is organized by plant common names, and there is loads of information on pests and problems associated with each plant named. I only wish there were a larger variety of less common plants. But most common ornamentals are included.

Run, Rabbit, Run: The Hilarious and Mostly True Tales of Rabbit Maranville
Published in Paperback by North Atlantic Books (September, 1991)
Average review score:

Rabbit TalesA short read, only 90 pages, an easy read also. The book is short stories from Walter "rabbit" Maranville's experiences as a baseball player from 1911-1939. Each story is no more than a page or so. Did everything he talks about really happen? Well I guess that's part of the charm of this book. Like your favorite Grandpa spinning stories from the past, I sure there is some embellishment, but the spirit of the story comes through. If you're looking for the story of Rabbit's life this is not it, this is just great short stories from a great story teller. A fun, quick read.

Studying Congregations: A New Handbook
Published in Paperback by Abingdon Press (September, 1998)
Average review score:

Helpful book for analyzing congregationsThis book provides a step-by-step process for analyzing a congregation-- its theology, context, culture and identity, dynamics, resources, and leadership. For church leaders looking for ways to figure out what's *really* been happening in a congregation, what its mission might be, and where it might be headed, this is a valuable book!
